I studied music and performance at the Royal Northern College of Music Manchester and have worked for the last 30 years as a classical musician with many of the main British symphony, chamber and opera orchestras at home and abroad. During the last 10 years I've also broadened my working life to include the other two areas that I care about, art and healing. In 2015 I trained as a Bowen Therapist and have had a busy practice ever since.

Throughout my adult life I've alway sketched and made art, attending life-drawing, photography, printing  and general art classes in London and Glasgow. The artists that inspire me are too numerous to mention but the power of an image to convey and move - from Italian renaissance frescoes to 20th century innovations in abstraction - and just the beauty of a line or the ability of brushwork to capture fleeting light, all make the act of trying to create something meaningful, constantly challenging and motivating. I feel I'm just at the beginning of a journey every time I pick up a pencil or brush.

I've been doing portrait commissions for a number of years now and love to see the pleasure and joy that these bring to people. I particularly enjoy drawing children with their candid and fresh faces and have sketchbooks full of sketches of my own children who have been wonderful models, especially when asleep!

As well as being fascinated by people and the human form I also take inspiration from nature and the beautiful Scottish countryside and will continue to sketch, paint and explore the images I see around me and put them on this website.
